Pulau hiri7/2/2023 Since we have to make sure we can get to Pulau Ternate on time to see the eclipse, we need to choose islands that are the most easy to reach. Travelling Maluku can be a challenge and you will have to have lot’s of time and patience to organise transport to all these different places. Maluku consists out of more than 1000 islands, so of course we have to be selective in the places we will go to. ‘Guning Api from Banda Besar’ by Matthew Winterburn – So we decided to follow the sun in all it’s ways and discover these remote islands. In Maluku, the monsoon season starts around June and will go until October, which is when it is peak season everywhere else in Indonesia. The only exception to this climate rule is the Moluccan Islands. Popular destinations, such as Bali, Lombok, Komodo, Java, Borneo and so on, are all dealing with the wet season, which could affect some tourist destinations and boat travel. During these months most of Indonesia is in the middle of their rain season, which could influence travel severely. We will spend a total of two months in Indonesia, flying in on the 28th of January and flying back to Europe on the 26th of March. Ternate is a cone-shaped volcanic island. Ternate, capital of North Maluku (view from the nearby Hiri island). Next week it will be exactly three months before we fly to Indonesia, so it is time to think about the places we will visit! We have recently made our decision about where we would watch the eclipse from ( read about it here), but that won’t be the only island we will see in Indonesia.
